Learn About Your Plant

The first step on how to care for potted plants is to take the time to learn and research about the type of plant you are caring for since all plants have its own unique set of requirements, such as how much sun it likes or if it needs to be watered every day.

Choose the Correct Pot

One word: drainage. Drainage is extremely important to keep your plant alive and healthy. Poor drainage can lead to droopy and wilted plant, or worse, root rot. Plus, choosing the right pot gives your plant room to grow and stretch its roots making it healthy.

Give Them Plenty of Light

Your plant needs the proper amount of sunlight to thrive. We recommend placing your plant near a windowsill, on a table in front of a window, or in someplace that has plenty of bright, indirect sunlight.

Keep Your Pet Away

Some plants are toxic for your pet, some pets might play with your plants and tear them up in their enthusiasm. It’s best to place your plants in places your pet can’t access like on the counter or top of a cabinet.

Use Good Potting Soil

One of the steps on how to care for potted plants is to think about what type of potting soil your plant needs. Buy a bag of potting soil since potting mixes contain extra nutrients that will help your plant grow healthy and strong.

Watering: Not Too Much and Not Too Little

Watering can be a little bit tricky, especially if you are a beginner. Yes, some plants prefer moist soil, but the rule of thumb is to allow the soil to dry out between watering. Feel the soil using your fingers. If the soil feels dry, it’s time to water. Also, if the leaves are turning brown and shriveled, your plant needs water. Make sure to drain the water completely out the hole in the bottom of the pot to avoid root rot.
