Showing off your green thumb in your bathroom may seem like a weird idea because the environment is a bit of a wildcard, but it’s actually one of the perfect rooms in your home to keep plants, especially for plants that can tolerate low lighting conditions and high humidity.
Additionally, there are lots of good reasons to turn your bathroom into a green oasis, such as it beautifies the room and improves the air quality by cleaning the toxins from the air. However, not all plants will thrive in your bathroom, so here are the bathroom plants to brighten the space and for a more spa-like experience.
One word of advice: Be careful not to overwater your bathroom plants as they won’t dry out as quickly compared to your bedroom plants, home office plants, and kitchen plants. We recommend you to check the soil every week before watering again.
Air Plant
Air Plant or Tillandsia makes great bathroom plants because they can soak up the humidity. Plus, it’s fun to style air plants. Trust us, the possibilities are endless! To keep your air plants happy and healthy, place them in a spot with bright, indirect light and high humidity. Make sure to provide proper air circulation since this is how they absorb nutrients and water. Avoid placing them in an enclosed terrarium as this will keep them too wet, causing them to rot or get a fungal disease.

Aloe Vera
Aside from the fact that it’s a great air-purifying plant, bedroom plant, home office plant, and kitchen plant, Aloe Vera is also a perfect bathroom plant because it can easily adapt to temperature changes. Additionally, it offers a LOT of beauty and health benefits, such as the gel in the Aloe Vera plant provides aid for burns, cuts, irritations, and treating sunburns.
Find a warm spot in your bathroom where it can get bright, direct light for at least six to eight hours every morning. As a general rule of thumb, water your Aloe Vera plant only when the soil is completely dry.

Bird’s Nest Fern
Bird’s Nest Fern is arguably one of the easiest ferns to grow and keep alive indoors. It also loves the extra moisture a bathroom can provide, which makes it a great option as bathroom plants. Bird’s Nest Fern needs moderate, indirect light to thrive. Avoid watering the center of the Bird’s Nest Fern because it acts as a cradle and can cause the plant to rot.

Calathea “Freddie”
Known for its beautiful striped green leaves, the Calathea “Freddie” grows well in humid environments. It prefers medium to bright, indirect light, but it can tolerate low light areas. It’s best to keep the soil damp but never saturated. Maintain a regular watering schedule to keep your Calathea “Freddie” plant happy and healthy.

Chinese Evergreen
The Chinese Evergreen is one of the best choices as bathroom plants because it can handle neglect, but it doesn’t mean that it can survive on its own. It prefers low or indirect light, but it also grows well under bright, indirect light. It’s also very adaptive, however, it hates quick temperature changes, so make sure to close your bathroom windows to avoid drafts that might weaken the plant.

Gardenia
Gardenias are tropical plants, so they make great bathroom plants. It loves humid air, and it thrives under bright, indirect light for at least four hours every morning. Make sure to keep the soil moist and well-drained.

Pothos
For people cursed with a black thumb, Pothos is the perfect houseplant for you. It’s actually easier to care for Pothos than to grow succulents. Pothos doesn’t necessarily need the extra humidity, but it can tolerate lower light levels and irregular watering, which makes it a perfect bathroom plant. However, Pothos grows well in medium and higher light areas. Also, keep the soil moist, but be careful not to overwater. It’s best to hang your Pothos since this plant loves to vine.
Snake Plant
Another houseplant that’s nearly impossible to kill: the Snake Plant. One of the things I love about the Snake plant is it basically thrives on neglect. Yes, it doesn’t mind being forgotten from time to time. It’s also a drought-tolerant houseplant. Snake plants can tolerate lower light levels and irregular watering, so they make great bathroom plants. However, if you want to see this plant grow faster, place it in a spot where it can get bright, indirect light.
Spider Plant
Another no-fuss option as bathroom plants. Spider plants like a little humidity and they can tolerate bright light or low light. Plus, Spider plant produces oxygen while purifying the air in your bathroom.
Staghorn Fern
Staghorn Fern resembles the horns of a staghorn. Similar to the Bird’s Nest Fern, it loves extra humid places like the bathroom. It needs bright to moderate, indirect light to thrive, and it requires frequent watering, but allow the soil to dry out in between. Staghorn Fern plants are epiphytes, which means they live on trees, similar to air plants. It’s usually grown mounted on a piece of wood with peat, compost, or other organic matter piled up under the plant.
Your bathroom is the most humid area in your home, so it’s best to choose plants that will thrive in this type of environment. Also, don’t be afraid to shower these bathroom plants. They will appreciate you for helping them remove the dust and pests. Additionally, giving your bathroom plants an occasional shower allows them to “breathe” and photosynthesize more efficiently.
